New Season, New Direction!

Ahh, if only the almanacs speak true! I have been hearing a rumor that this year will be better than last in Quebec, could it be true!!!!

The winds have turned in any case, as I have seen my last days as an athlete. I am very pleased to have had so much support and luck these past three years and would like to thank those of you who believed in me. I have learnt many valuable lessons and seen telemark evolve in Quebec due to the valiant efforts of the small groups of volunteers that have devoted time and energy to the cause! There efforts will pay off in the future!

As for myself, I will now pass on my passion through teaching, coaching and therapy! I have returned to school to become an Athletic Therapist. You never know, maybe one day our teams might need one! ;-)

I will also be taking a number of teaching levels with CANSI, CSIA and NCCP to complement my understanding of our sport.

What a phenomenal weekend. I have just come back from Mont Blanc, Qc where we spent three incredible days on the snow with Sébastien Michel for the Inaugural CANSI(Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors) Telemark Coach 1 course. A first for Canada.

There was most definitely a convergence of power and skill at this meeting. Among the participants we found people such as, the provincial and national team coaches, the presidents of Telemark Quebec and Canada, the president of Cansi Quebec, the chair of the National Technical Committee for CANSI Canada and a few national team racers. Needless to say the weekend was very interesting.

Lead by Sebastien Michel (World Cup Coach CDAST(Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team) we where taken through the steps as defined by CSCF(Canadian Ski Coaches Federation)level 1 with a few small changes. Sebastien Michel showed his magnanimous ability to be creative. Not only was his coaching and teaching ability unparalleled, but he put on a pair of tele's for the first time on Friday morning and taught the whole course on this unknown equipment. BRAVO.

We have all left this course with a number of questions answered and a few more tools to add to our 'toolbox' so to speak. Most of all I believe we have a new sense of purpose. There are more and more people being introduced to telemark skiing every year. It feels like the timing is right for the structure to find it's place and offer a development path for those changing over.

A huge thank you to Norman Thibeault and Cansi for finding a way to make this happen.

I believe that we are still looking for the 'perfect image' of a telemark skier in Canada. The most powerful and efficient position. We may have just come one step closer to figuring out this puzzle.

Festival Du Mont Comi - 25ieme

I will be going to the 25th Anniversary of the Mont C0mi Telefestival. I look forward to my first experience out there. Sebastien Rojo, Marc-Andre Houde and I will be giving some clinics for those of you who are looking to try telemark for the first time or to brush up on you carving technique. Look for the red Chlorophylle Jackets that say Canada - Telemark Team.

Sports Quebec annual Gala

It's been some time since my last posting!
Many, many changes have occurred including my return to school, I will be studying Athletic Therapy at Concordia University!

I also have the pleasure of announcing that I was nominated for International Athlete of the year! Thank you to everyone who has helped along the way! It has been an amazing journey!

The more upsetting news is that I will not be able to compete this year, I have been battling many health problems including a torn ACL for the past three years. I will be undergoing surgery in the spring and will be back to competition in 2009! In the mean time I will be able to concentrate on my studies and look forward to the future!

World Telemark Championships 2007!!!

Wow, what an amazing event!
Truly high class. The Swiss know how it works!!!

I have had my most successful event thus far finishing 7th in the GS, 5th in the Classic and 4th in the Sprint Classic. All in all I am amazingly happy.

Thank you to everyone that has lent me a helping hand this season, I couldn't have done it with out you!

World Cup - Rjukan, Norway

After the two Classics in Trysil, Norway(10th and 8th) I finished 6th today in the GS at Rjukan.

Tomorrow we will be competing in our first Sprint Classic. Looking forward to it!

Saturdays Sprint Classic will be televised on NRK 1 on the Sunday so for all of you Telemark enthusiasts maybe you can get hooked up on the internet or with you TV company!

Thanks to Annie! For the training camp this weekend.
Tremblant is open and pumping out the snow. The conditions are very respectable considering mother nature is not 'really' cooperating!

I have had more good news for this year. Station Mont Tremblant has come on board!!! A huge thank you to Lyne Lortie - Directrice of Communications at Tremblant, her perseverance paid off!
Backcountry Access (link on the side bar) will be helping me out with Rottefella R8's for this years ski season, and Lorpen will be sponsoring the National Team!!! Great, Great news!

So that makes - 5000$ out 0f 20000$ we are getting there!

Training is going strong, we started plyometric training this week! Ouch!
;-) Perseverance will pay off!!!

As for the Telemark School - we had a generous donation from Station Mont Tremblant's Alain Valliquet, who came through on 6 pairs of skis for the little munchkins! Normand Thibault of St-Faustin has arranged 16 outings with students from the alpine ski academy - Norbert Morin. We will also be organizing a race/festival at Mont Blanc this year(date to be confirmed) We are looking for skis and bindings to help get the school running! If anyone has any Rottefella - Chili bingings that are growing moldy in your basement, your donations would be greatly appreciated!

We now have 32 pairs of boots, 14 pairs of skis, and a few bindings! Yehhh.

Training Camp at Tremblant

Wow what an amazing weekend! A huge thank you to Annie, Rene Luc, Seb, Maurice, Steph and Line for organizing the event.

Telemark Quebec and Telemark Canada were invited to a training camp held at Mt Tremblant in the Laurentians. We were put to the test with performance evaluations including a 3.2 km run, agility test, strength test, power test, speed test etc....

Josianne(Team Canada) gave us a nutrition clinic that was meticulously prepared and very informative... Thanks Jo!

We were invited to Dan Lachance Ski Service it the Mt Tremblant village for a fantastic evening including, wine and cheese, a Swix clinic and a very convincing impromptu speech by Alex there very talented boot fitter.
Thank you to all the employees who offered us there expertise!

I don't have any photos but believe me when I say it was a huge step in the right direction... Congrats everyone!

We will be having our second dry land training camp from the 4-6th of November. We will have been training for approximatly 3months.
Also for all telemark quebec and telemark canada athletes participating in this training camp I will be having a sushi dinner at my place on the saturday night. Come one, come all!!!

We will be hosting a benefit night at Resto-bar Casey's!

The Date - 31st of March, 2006
The Time - Starting at 17h00
The Events - Northern Light will be playing a set or two and many Door Prizes will be drawn during the evening. There will also be a Silent Auction with a large variety of items from Oil Paintings to Ski Equipment.
Why? - To raise money for the World Cup Season 2007 and the World Championships 2007.
I would also like to make a small donation to Normand Thibeau to help get his project rolling (Buy Equipment to help start a Telemark School)

How? - This event is made possible by the generosity of friends and family. The Mont Tremblant ski patrol has played a crucial role in my success!!!

Second run I was fourth, Finished 6th.
GS today. The weather is looking up also, the sun is peeking through the clouds.

First run wasn't great.
Fell in the wrap which is a little odd.
I am in 7th place with no penalties.
We'll see how the second run goes.
